G Scale Steam Locomotives

Steam locomotive 53 Mh Rügensche Bäderbahn

In 1910, after the Pomeranian Provincial Administration had taken over the operation of the former Lenz-operated light railway lines in Pomerania, new, more powerful locomotives were procured for these lines in 1913, which were supplied by the Vulcan locomotive factory in Szczecin. Two of these Class "M" locomotives were also used on the Rügen Kleinbahn, where they had proven themselves very well. With their power of 200 hp and their top speed of 30 km/h, the locomotives, which weighed around 23 tonnes, were able to cope with all the tasks that arose. Due to the good experience, another locomotive was ordered in 1925 – but now as a superheated steam locomotive – and was given the class designation Mh. Basically the same, it had a slightly higher power of 235, it was also about 2 tons heavier and slightly larger than its predecessors. After the takeover of the Rügen Kleinbahn by the DR in 1949, the 3 locomotives were given the class numbers 99 4631 to 99 4633. For example, they were in use on Rügen for a long time, and at the beginning of the 1990s, 99 4632 and 99 4633 were fundamentally renewed, including new boilers and new cylinders. After the locomotives used to run in the DR livery black with red wheels, 99 4632 was given a green livery, but then became black again a few years later. Since summer 2020, the 99 4633 – as the 53 Mh – has been on the road in a very attractive dark green livery.
