Robur LO 1801 A
Volunteer fire department FFW, built in 1968

The principle of converting a truck into a fire-fighting vehicle at low cost had proven itself at the time when the possibilities for procuring material were very limited. As a result, a complete series of fire-fighting vehicles was created from an emergency solution. New concepts were developed at the Gorlitz fire-fighting equipment plant to make the fire-fighting vehicles even more effective for the technical
to equip assistance and the extinguishing attack. These vehicles should be as flexible as possible for any type of operation. This resulted in a new generation of mixed-construction fire engines based on trucks, which were part of the fire stations and company fire brigades of the Republic from 1968. Good off-road driving characteristics, fording ability and climbing ability were part and minimum requirements in order to be able to be used in very rough terrain. Since the four-wheel drive variant was originally a military vehicle, the typical features such as a roof hatch above the passenger seat (squad leader), waterproof headlights and the driver's windscreen that can be opened are present. From 1968 onwards, series production of the LF8-TS8-STA fire engines for the fire brigade began at the VEB fire extinguishing equipment plant in Gorlitz on all-wheel drive chassis of the Robur 1801 A type. Our model
corresponds to a typical LF8 of the FFW (voluntary fire brigade) in the GDR.
