"On 17.7.1965, the first W50 truck rolled off the production line in Ludwigsfelde. In 2025, 60 years of the W50 will therefore be celebrated. And since this truck is the absolute favourite in the Espewe range, this anniversary will be celebrated with two special models as special anniversary versions. Both the 25,000th W50 delivered to the USSR and the 350,000th W50 that rolled off the production line in total will be specially decorated as model versions. In addition, there will also be further versions of the very popular fertiliser litter body, which celebrated its model premiere last year, on the chassis of the W50 and L60 and will complement existing series, such as the LPG Red October. The W50 was designed in over 70 basic variants with different bodies. In addition to the flatbed vehicle, the tipper variant was the most widespread version from Ludwigsfelde and produced in the highest numbers. With the wide low-pressure tires, off-road capability was noticeably increased. The W50 was suitable for new development areas, where there were hardly any paved roads during the construction phases, and also for difficult terrain.
The W50 was one of the export hits of the GDR and was exported to the USSR (CCCP in Russian) in addition to the non-socialist economic area as a foreign exchange earner. The 25,000th model was given a special lettering for the handover."
