Since the drawings for the wagons of the 'interchangeable component manufacture' type (so-called "Austauschbau" wagons) were not yet available, the DRG had the proven "Verbandsbau" types reproduced even after the first world war. In the meantime, the wagons were delivered with compressedair brake which was expressed by the subsidiary class letter "n" and the inscription "Luftdruckbremse Kunze-Knorr". The freight car manufactured according to the master drawing A2 became the most-built freight car in the
world. The system of the class names by districts had been adopted from Bavaria - the "Verbandsbau" wagons were assigned the districts "Munich" and "Cassel".
