Prototype:
The articulate wagon marked as TWIN I was the answer by freight car lessor AAE to the requirement of maximum flexibility in intermodal freight service. The 34 m long cars can carry 40- and 20-ft containers as well as semi-trailers. Contrary to previous models and thanks to the particularly deep pockets even modern mega-trailers can be accommodated. There are support blocks at the end of the cars for securing semi-trailers. They remain on the cars even if the next load is made up of containers. The support brackets for the containers are also permanently on board. They are stored above the centre bogie when they are not needed. In comparison to the versions with disc-brakes these cars are equipped with shoe brakes and allow adding 3 tons to the payload. The permitted maximum speed is 120 km/h without load and 100 km/h with load, regardless of the mainline class. These cars are also combined with other types for intermodal traffic.
