Prototype:
The mass production of this enormous 3-cylinder freight locomotive began in 1937. A total of 1753 machines of this type for the German Reichbahn were prepared. From 1958, 36 locomotives were converted to oil firing and coupled with converted tenders the type T34 at the German Federal Railroad. After that they ran from about 1968 as 043 machines and were considered one of the strongest German steam locomotives. 2100 hp and a train weight of up to 2,400 t, their past probably remain unforgotten mainly from the heavy ore trains in Emsland. As the end of steam era was completed at the DB on 26 October 1977 also saw the retirement of the last oil-fired "Jumbos". A few locomotives were delivered as an interim war locomotives outfitted with the Tub-tender T34 to the Reichbahn. These were at the German Federal Railroad until the end of the 60 years of service.
