The DB locomotive for heavy express train service. The 01 was the first series standard steam locomotive with the wheel arrangement 2C1 (Pacific locomotives). The 01 were built from 1925 to 1938. In the early 1950s, the Wagner smoke deflectors were replaced with the Witte type. Between 1957 and 1961 some locomotives received new boilers.
