All coaches planned for the Rheinpfeil train could be delivered by May 1963, however, the production finalization of the locomotives E 10 1308 to 1312 was delayed until October 1963. As was the case a year earlier with the Rheingold, five serial locomotives (E 10 250 to 254) were painted in beige/cobalt blue and temporarily received the existing “Henschel“ bogies to achieve the top speed of 160 km/h of the final E 10.12. In contrast to the Rheingold, however, these locomotives kept their original running numbers.
