MAN manufactured a total of 3500 of the 7-ton MAN CAT 1 trucks for the German Army between 1977 and 1985. Compared to the 2-axle 5-tonner, the 3-axle 7-tonner has a more powerful, air-cooled 320 BHP Deutz engine with an exhaust turbocharger and charge air cooling. These trucks were used as flatbed vehicles, equipment carriers for reconnaissance drones, carrier vehicles for the LARS light artillery rocket system, as container transporters and also as three-sided tippers.
