"With a level of awareness of 97%, the "Minol" brand is probably one of the most famous brands in the GDR. The name is made up of the two initial syllables mineral oil and oleum (Latin for oil) and has stood since 1949 as the German brand name for mineral oil products. The red/yellow design of the petrol stations, the entire advertising and the original "Minol-Pirol" mascot are legendary, as is the advertising slogan: "Always ready to serve for your well-being is always the Minol oriole". In the course of privatisation after the dissolution of the GDR and various affairs, the brand and appearance could no longer be maintained.
Of the once more than 1,300 Minol petrol stations, only three still exist today and can be found in Leipzig-Lindenau, Zeitz and Heidenau. Various vehicles were used to transport goods within VEB Minol, such as this trailer with the yellow tarpaulin and the red imprint "Minol". Oil drums and canisters are certainly loaded under the tarpaulin."
