DHL Worldwide Express was founded in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. The company name is made up of the first letters of the founders' surnames. The three founders personally brought freight documents by plane from San Francisco to Honolulu. The customs clearance of the corresponding shiploads could thus begin before the ships actually arrived. Sending goods accompanying documents before the actual transport of goods was the reason for the success of this express service. In 2002, DHL was taken over by Deutsche Post AG. The short Sprinters are usually on the road in the fast express service.
