Carabinieri! The (to german) "carbine troop" is the Italian gendarmerie and forms an independent branch of the armed forces alongside the navy, army and air force. Until 2000, however, the carabinieri, which was founded in 1814, was still part of the army. Their tasks largely include the general police service according to the instructions of the Ministry of the Interior. Otherwise, there are also some specialized units for consumer protection, health care, environmental protection, cultural property protection and tasks from other ministries.
