DHL Worldwide Express was founded in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. The company name is made up of the first letters of the founders' surnames. The three founders personally brought freight documents by plane from San Francisco to Honolulu. The customs clearance of the corresponding shiploads could thus begin even before the ships actually arrived. Sending goods accompanying documents before the actual transport of goods was the reason for the success of this express service. In 2002, DHL was taken over by Deutsche Post AG. After Deutsche Post already had the majority of shares in the Danzas freight forwarding group in 1999, the three brands DHL, Deutsche Post and Danzas were combined into a globally active DHL brand in the course of a rebranding ("3D integration"). The model is therefore designed in the current design of the shipper.
