An Old Swiss Man Visiting Götz von Berlichingen
There once was in imperial knight, to whom Johann Wolfgang von Goethe attributed the famous and infamous "Swabian Greeting" with the legendary threat of deprivation. His name was Götz von Berlichingen, and he lived in the castle of the same name in the Hohenlohe Jagst Valley. Centuries later this delightful region wrote history again, when in 1971 the narrow gauge Jagst Valley Railroad opened in 1901 set up historic train operations with steam motive power. It was so popular that the few existing passenger cars were no longer enough. A search was therefore made for suitable old cars, and suitable candidates were found in Switzerland. In 1982 four very old passenger cars were acquired from the St. Gallen-Gais-Appenzell-Altstätten-Railroad (SGA). A special decorative car was no. 116 built in 1904, which was still largely in original condition. After being regauged from 1000 mm / 39" to 750 mm / 30" this old-timer was added starting in 1984 to the varied car roster in the Jagst Valley. With its decorative red/white appearance it brought a stylish dash of color particularly with the green/red/black painted steam locomotive road number 798.101 ("Nicki S.") on the tracks there. The town of Dörzbach showed its relationship with its railroad with the coat-of-arms on the side walls of the car. This rustic car is currently waiting to be restored. The new LGB model shows at least in this smaller scale how the real life prototype can shine in new splendor on the next significant anniversary of this railroad.
