In order to close the gap in the performance programme of combustion power locomotives between the V60 and V180 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR), Lokomotivbau Karl Marx in Babelsberg near Potsdam (LOB/LKM, formerly Orenstein & Koppel) was commissioned to design and manufacture two type locomotives of the V100 series. The production of the series locomotives was relocated to Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke Hans Beimler in Hennigsdorf near Berlin (LEW, formerly AEG). LEW revised the design of the V100 and produced its own prototype, the V100 003, which differed significantly from the first two models. After testing and eliminating minor defects, the DR successfully used the V100 on branch lines for decades. Between 1965 and 1983, almost 1150 locomotives of this type were built by LEW. Numerous conversions and further developments led to different class designations. These locomotives were used by the DR as classes 108, 110, 111, 112, 114 and 115. After being retired by the DR, many of the V100 locomotives were used by private railways. In the DB renumbering plan, these DR locomotives were given new class designations, such as 202 or 204. At the Alstom Lokomotiven Service GmbH plant in Stendal (formerly RAW Stendal), some of these locomotives have been rebuilt. The conversion concept could be adapted to customer requirements, so that there are locomotives with different engines and different appearances. Many of the locomotives converted by ALSTOM were given the new class designation 203. The locomotive with the running number 204 011-5 has received several conversions in the course of its service. The locomotive was delivered in 1976 as 110 844-8 by LEW to the DR and converted in 1988 at Dresden depot to 112 844-6. At the DB AG it ran as 202 844-7 until the z position in 2001. In 2003, the locomotive, converted by ALSTOM, was delivered to the Pressnitztalbahn as 204 011-5. From 2007 it was also given the NVR number 92 80 1203 212-6 D-PRESS.
