The T 478.1 series was a universal diesel-electric locomotive built of the CSD. Between 1966 and 1971, a total of 230 locomotives of this series were delivered. From 1969 to 1970, an additional 82 locomotives were supplied as goods train variants, designated T 478.2. These locomotives were identical to the T 478.1 series, apart from the omission of a boiler.
